REVIEW: M.A.C Matte Lipstick – Taupe

I have quite a good general understanding of M.A.C and the line of products they carry. However when it comes to actual experience? It’s quite limited to just their Prep+Prime Fix+ makeup spray which I have written a review on here.

This is my first time using a lipstick by M.A.C and I was super, super excited to use it. I had very high expectations for their lipsticks due to its popularity and long line of dedicated users.

I purchased this at a Myer department store for $32 AUD, which isn’t exactly the cheapest price for lipsticks but I was willing to spend a little extra for better quality.

M.A.C Matte Lipstick – Taupe

M.A.C lipsticks come in many different shades, totalling up to over 200. They also carry different finishes such as matte, sheen, cream, satin, or even frost. Customers are pretty much given a large range of options.

I myself chose to purchase their matte lipstick because I’ve always been more in favour of matte finishes.

M.A.C Matte Lipstick – Taupe

The shade I have chosen is called Taupe which is a muted reddish-taupe brown. I apologise because I am not the best at describing colours.

M.A.C Matte Lipstick – Taupe

The lipstick is contained in M.A.C’s traditional and classic bullet packaging which I really like. It’s sleek and simple.

For those who are curious, this is what M.A.C has to say on the product:

“Formulated to shade, define and showcase the lips, MAC Lipstick is available in hundreds of hues and high-fashion textures. It’s the iconic product that made MAC famous.”

M.A.C Matte Lipstick – Ingredients list

Right above is the ingredients list which I have inserted for those who are sensitive to certain ingredients and are curious to know what the lipstick contains.

The lipstick contains vanilla which would explain it’s slight vanilla scent.

I just want to say how much I LOVE this lipstick. It’s matte but it’s not drying at all and feels velvety on the lips and applies so smoothly. This has become my go-to everyday lipstick. It’s the perfect nude shade for my skin tone. This however, does require some touch ups after eating but that doesn’t really bother me.

Just a disclaimer, the picture above isn’t always what Taupe looks like on my lips because I occasionally wear a lip balm underneath that already has a tint to it but this does give a general idea of what it looks like.

I now buy into the hype and love this product gets. I highly recommend this!!

  • Not at all drying
  • Applies smoothly
  • Doesn’t sink into fine lines
  • Attractive packaging.

  • Requires touch ups throughout the day
  • On the pricey side

REVIEW: Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

I only started wearing a full face of makeup around three years ago, and since then I haven’t exactly experimented with a wide range of bronzers. After watching beauty tutorial after beauty tutorial, this product was frequently mentioned and highly praised by many beauty lovers as well as my own peers.

After using the sample version of this bronzer, I received the full sized version as a Christmas gift in the shade medium/deep.

If you are living in Australia, you can purchase this product at Mecca Maxima for $44 AUD.

I really love the packaging of this bronzer, particularly the little detailing around the rim. Although $44 for a bronzer is quite pricey, the size of this product is quite large and will last a very long time. I have been using the sample size for over five months and I still haven’t hit pan!

Ingredients: Talca, Mica, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Zinc Stearate, Boron Nitirde, Sodium Saccharin, Benzyl Benzoate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum/Fragrance, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Fruit Powder, Benzyl Alcohol, Silica, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742).

This bronzer is said to be infused with anti oxidant-rich cocoa powder. This bronzer has a matte finish that aims to neutralise red colours and even skin tones. It is also Vegan friendly for those who particular about that. As for scents, this bronzer actually does smell like chocolate!

I use this as part of my everyday makeup routine. I find that this bronzer adds a nice warmth to the face and blends really, really nicely. I also like to use this to carve some cheekbones as my face shape leans more towards the round side. The matte finish is great as I am not particularly a fan of bronzers with shimmer.

  • Large amount of product
  • Chocolate scent
  • Blends nicely
  • Beautiful packaging

  • Pricey

REVIEW: Maybelline Nudes + Blushed Nudes

Among the many lovely presents I received on my birthday, my aunt gave me two eyeshadows from Maybelline, The Nudes and The Blushed Nudes. I have heard many good things about these two products so I was quite excited to try these out.

Price: AUD $25.95

The two palettes have 12 shades each. I really like how slim and light the packaging is which makes it very easy to travel with. In terms of shades, I think The Blushed Nudes would be my favourite out of the two. This is probably because I already own many palettes with shades similar to The Nudes.

The Nudes

The Nudes consists of mainly brown and gold shades. 7 of them are matte and 5 are shimmer. The colours provided are perfect for both everyday makeup and a dramatic look for a night out. I really like that these are so versatile and the fact that they suit all kinds of skin colours.

It comes with one sponge applicator as well.

The Nudes

I was very much surprised by how pigmented some of these shades are. There are a few that I think look great on the skin, particularly the ninth swatch. However, there are a few others that lack pigment which is quite disappointing and requires a little more work but it’s not the worst thing ever.

  • Certain colours are vibrant
  • Good for everyday makeup
  • Versatile
  • Suits all skin colours

  • Some shades lack pigment

The Blushed Nudes

The Blushed Nudes

I really love these rosy tones as they are just perfect to wear during Spring and Summer. I find that these shades are very feminine and pretty. I have heard that this palette is actually a considered as a dupe for Urban Decay’s Naked 3 eyeshadow palette.

All of these shades are shimmery so if you are one who prefers the matte look, I wouldn’t recommend this. It also came with two sponge applicators.

The Blushed Nudes

The shades in The Blushed Nudes are more consistently pigmented. I really love the colours in this palette especially since I’m a fan of shimmer shades. For a long time, I have really wanted to purchase Urban Decay’s Naked 3 but after using this palette, I now no longer want it as the shades and pigment are almost exactly the same and for only a fraction of the price.

  • Pretty shades
  • Very pigmented
  • Dupe for Naked 3 palette
  • Light packaging
  • Inexpensive

REVIEW: Tartelette In Bloom Amazonian Clay Palette

I’m back again with another eyeshadow palette for review and it is the Tartelette In Bloom Clay Palette by Tarte. I received this from my cousin’s girlfriend as an early birthday gift and it is actually my first time using and owning a product by Tarte. I was beyond excited to try this so let’s just jump straight into the review.

The palette comes in a gold metal case with a fuchsia accent. It’s not too heavy which I really like as it makes it easier to travel around with. I just think the packaging is gorgeous and feminine which makes it nice to look at on your vanity.

Price: AUD$67

The palette comes with 12 different nude shades and it also comes with this little guideline which tells you how to recreate two different looks with the shades provided.

“This one’s for all the jetsetters, funny girls and smarty pants out there. Discover 12 brand-new, on-trend eyeshadows in a mix of matte and luster finishes. These lid, liner and crease pairings allow you to create an endless range of stunning, smoldering eyes. Infused with tarte’s signature Amazonian clay formula, you’ll get the same pigmented payoff, blendability and lasting color as the original tartelette—all in a chic, portable palette with a beautiful floral design”

Top row: Charmer, Jetsetter, Rocker, Smokeshow. Second row: Flower Child, Smarty Pants, Firecracker, Activist. Third row: Funny Girl, Sweetheart, Rebel, Leader.

The shades in here are SO beautiful. For me, this is the perfect palette for Autumn. It smells quite nice too, almost with a chocolate scent? Maybe it’s just me. There’s so many looks you can create with these shades and it’s also suitable for everyday wear, both day and night.

As you can see, these shadows are quite pigmented and rich in colour. My most favourite shade would have to be Firecracker as i’m a huge fan of shimmer. I really love the formula of this palette. Each eyeshadow is very smooth and velvety and just blends really well. I absolutely love this palette and I think this is one that would suit all skin colours.

  • Attractive packaging
  • Nice scent
  • Very pigmented
  • Smooth formula

REVIEW: ColourPop Matte X Lippie Stix

I’m a huge fan of Colourpop products and today I’ll be reviewing their Matte X Lippie Stix. So far, I only have two shades from their collection, the two being ‘Love Life’ and ‘Jenneration X’. They’re only $5 a pop!

So far, I have a love hate relationship with their ultra matte lips which I have reviewed in the past which you can click here for the full review. I was hoping that the Lippie Stix wouldn’t disappoint me.

From left to right: Jenneration X, Love Life

I’m not really a fan of the packaging. In my opinion, it’s very plain and looks quite cheap. However, I do like that the product comes in a slim twist case.

Description: High intensity full coverage pigment with one stroke application. This long wearing formula has the smoothest, most velvety glide with a SUPER matte finish!

I really love these. They have a matte finish without leaving a very dry feeling unlike their ultra matte liquid lipsticks. I like that these glide on so smoothly without any problems. The colours are vibrant and look beautiful on the lips. Although, these tend to transfer when eating meals which requires another application, however it doesn’t bother me too much. I really love these and I hope to purchase more in the future.

  • Very affordable
  • Applies smoothly
  • Vibrant colours
  • Not drying

  • Expensive international shipping
  • Ships to limited countries
  • Transfers during meals

REVIEW: Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips

This was a product that I had been waiting to try for a very long time. it’s the Ultra Matte Lips by Colourpop! I was encouraged to purchase these due to the constant praise I heard from fellow makeup enthusiasts and it made me very curious. Are they really as good as people say? I purchased these from the Colourpop website, each liquid lipstick being approximately AUD$8, a price that I found very hard to resist. However, I did end up paying around AUD$25 for shipping as I also purchased other various products which I will be reviewing in the future.

These are the three liquid lipsticks I had chosen:

From left to right: ScroogeCreeperBumble.

Description: This thin and lightweight formula glides onto the lips leaving SUPER intense colour with a bold, ultra matte finish. It’s very long wearing and completely kiss proof!

Scrooge: You’ll wanna build a snowman while wearing this rich rosy pink.

Creeper: Keep it real in this true classic blue red.

Bumble: Everyone will be bee buzzing when you wear this dusty warm terracotta.

From left to right: Creeper, Bumble, Scrooge.

Application tips: Make sure your lips are bare, dry, and exfoliated for the smoothest finish. Apply a matching lip pencil for a precise and perfected application. Next, apply Ultra Matte Lip with the applicator or your favourite lip brush.

From top to bottom: Scrooge, Bumble, Creeper.

This liquid lipstick claims to be “very long wearing and completely kiss proof”. I highly agree with this statement in terms of its longevity, however I am unable to give an opinion on the latter as I had never used this lipstick during those situations. Although it does give a lovely matte finish with a great lasting power for at least 7 hours, it does leave your lips feeling VERY dry, which is one of my main issues with it. It does a good job of maintaining it’s position on your lips during meals, with only a small amount of transfer when eating oily foods, and from my personal experience, these are the only times that I require a touch up in which becomes a difficult process as piling on layers of liquid lipstick just feels too dry and tends to make the look lips flaky.

I highly recommend this for those who are looking for a good quality matte liquid lipstick for an affordable price. However, if your one who tends to have issues with dry lips, I suggest you take a rain check on these.
